Rent and Contracts

The policy of the College is to offer accommodation to all undergraduates for the full duration of their course (three or four years). All first year undergraduates are housed on the main College site.


Allocation of Rooms

First year rooms are allocated by the College.  In subsequent years rooms are allocated by ballot, which takes place in the Lent term. Students usually get their first or second choice of room in the ballot.  There will always be a room for everyone who wants it.


Rents - academic year 2016-2017

All rents are given per week.  In addition, a kitchen fixed charge applies to all students, but varies according to the location.  Accommodation rent is charged at the start of each term.

Definitions

  • Fully en suite - these rooms will have their own toilet, washbasin and shower or bath.

  • Own shower - these rooms have their own shower and usually washbasin. Toilet facilities are shared with other rooms.

  • Standard - these room do not have their own toilets or showers.  Some rooms have their own washbasins

  • Kitchens - all rooms have access to a shared kitchen

What is included in the rent

  • Fully furnished room, with bed, desk, chair and storage space (what's in the room?)

  • En suite or shared washing and toilet facilities

  • Use of shared kitchen space (self-contained flat has own kitchenette)

  • Heating, power and lighting to agreed College standards

  • House services, including; security, daily cleaning of common areas and weekly cleaning of bedrooms

  • IT services via the College network, with a free quarterly data allowance of 200GB (There may be a charge for additional usage.  See IT Charges).  From October 2017 the data allowance limit will be removed and network use will be subject to a fair use policy.  more information on the Computing pages in the summer

  • The right to use shared laundry facilities (charges apply for use of these)

  • Personal Possessions Insurance at a basic level (this can be topped up on an individual basis)

Room on Main College Site

  • Fully en suite - £134.50  - £147.50

  • With showers - £115.00 - £126.50

  • Standard (some with washbasins and some without) - £100.00 - £104.50

  • £104.50 - £126.50


Contracts

There are three types of contract available for undergraduate students. In your first year, you will choose this in August prior to arrival, in subsequent years the choice is made in February/March at the time of the housing ballot for rooms the following academic year.

Agreement A - Termly Residence.

  • Covers the Residence period of the Michaelmas, Lent and Easter terms

  • In the case of those in their final year, the agreement will be extended to the date of General Admission (graduation). Additional costs will apply for this extension

Agreement B - Easter Vacation Residence 

  • Covers the Residence period of Michaelmas term, and the period from the beginning of Residence period of Lent term to the end of the Residence period of the Easter term. Does not include the Christmas vacation

  • In the case of those in their final year, the agreement will be extended to the date of General Admission (graduation). Additional costs will apply for this extension

Agreement C - Full Residence 

  • Runs from the beginning of the Residence period of the Michaelmas term to the end of the Residence period of the Easter term.

  • In the case of those in their final year, the agreement will be extended to the date of General Admission  (graduation). Additional costs will apply for this extension


Non-College accommodation

If you do not want College accommodation, the University Accommodation Service may be able to help you find alternatives. Undergraduate students must make sure that they discuss this with their Tutor to seek permission and also to make sure that the accommodation is within a 3-mile radius of Great St. Mary's Church, Cambridge.
