Documentary screening and Q&A session with volcanologist and Fitzwilliam Bye-Fellow Dr Céline Vidal

For three decades, scientists have been searching for the volcano that caused the so-called 'mystery eruption' of the 13th century, only recorded by its sulphate signature in polar ice sheets and its suspected climate cooling in the Northern Hemisphere. In 2012, a group of scientists collected evidence all over the world to pinpoint the source of this mystery eruption; Killer Volcanoes was the first episode of the series Volatile Earth broadcast on Channel 4 last year, and tells the story of the search and discovery of the largest eruption of the last millennium.
