Tamil Society Access Conference 2025

Fitzwilliam College and Cambridge University Tamil Society will be running an Access Conference on the 22nd of February 2025 for UK-domiciled Tamil state school students who are currently in Year 11 (England and Wales), Year 12 (Northern Ireland) and S4 (Scotland). 

The conference has been designed to support students thinking about competitive HE, and the day will include subject-specific taster sessions, and provide an insight into life at Cambridge from current students.

The programme will take place in-person from 10am to 4pm at Fitzwilliam College and will include:

  • A talk from the admissions team about post-16 choices and next steps
  • Subject taster sessions delivered by University of Cambridge academics 
  • Tour of Fitzwilliam College
  • Student life talk delivered by the Cambridge University Tamil Society 
  • Tours of lecture sites 
  • Brunch (provided free of charge in the dining hall)

Applications for this event are now open via this online form and will close on 17th of January 2025 at 12pm. In the event of oversubscription, places will be prioritised for students who meet the widening participation criteria found below.

Eligibility Criteria:

In the event that this event is oversubscribed, we will prioritise places for students who meet the following criteria:

  • Are care experienced
  • Have been eligible for Free School Meals (at any point in the last six years)
  • Are, or have been, an asylum seeker or refugee
  • Have significant caring responsibilities
  • Are estranged from close family members
  • Live in an area of high deprivation (IMD)
  • Attend a low-performing GCSE school
  • Are from any region of the UK which is under-represented at the University of Cambridge
  • Have had any other personal circumstances that have disrupted your education
