Partners and families at Fitzwilliam

Fitzwilliam College welcomes students with partners/families.  We have some accommodation available for families, and the College and central university offers support to students with families.

The College runs family events throughout the year to facilitate socialising amongst families, recognising that students with families may find it more difficult to socialise/meet fellow Postgraduate students.  The MCR offers associate membership to spouses or registered co-habiting partners of full members.  The associate MCR members privileges include the right to dine in hall (debit card only), to use College laundry, secure cycle parking, and the use of the gym and squash courts.  Please see the MCR website for more information regarding benefits and costs.

Childcare

The Childcare office based on 21 Trumpington Street, oversees the facilities and assistance offered to students with children.

The University has 4 day nurseries at Edwinstowe Close, West Cambridge, Eddington and the Chris Abell Nursery, which are for children from three months to school age.  Students of the University are eligible to apply for a place at all 4 nurseries. There is also a Holiday Playscheme which operates during the state school holiday periods (excluding Christmas and Bank holidays) for school-age children. The Childcare Office operates an information service, which aims to support families of the University community. The service offers information on family related issues including childcare, schooling, health care, financial support, and community resources.  All financial support is means-tested.

UK and EU students can apply to the Access for Learning Funding administered by the University for childcare support: https://www.childcare.admin.cam.ac.uk/supportwithchildcarecosts/university-childcare-support-fund-formerly-university-childcare-hardship

Overseas students can apply for the Central Childcare Bursary Scheme which awards grants to eligible EU and overseas students to help with OFSTED-registered childcare costs: http://www.childcare.admin.cam.ac.uk/supportwithchildcarecosts
