Fitzwilliam Golf Society

The Fitzwilliam Golf Society was formed over 10 years ago by a small group who had been at Fitzwilliam in the mid 1970s. The Golf Society exists for Fitzwilliam College alumni to get together and to play friendly golf on good courses. Although clearly you do need some golfing experience to play with us, ability levels in our Society range from single figure handicaps (a handful) to quite high handicaps. Since the start, the Society has grown greatly – and we’re proud to say that we’re easily the most active alumni golf society of any Oxbridge college.

We organise golf days and short tours – at least 18 rounds of golf annually, including tours and try to visit good quality courses, mainly in the South East, but also around the UK. We also try to promote smaller scale “Fitz Locals” where members meet for a social round in their own area.

Our main event is the Fitz Open, in early September. This golf day is always played at a course near Cambridge and is followed by a dinner in College. This year we had a record attendance with 37 Fitz members playing which was excellent.

Fitzwilliam Golf Society

Any Fitz graduate or member is very welcome to play with us.  There is no annual subscription – just pay for the event you attend.

We have been remarkably successful in getting many Fitz alumni out playing with us – especially those who were at college in the 1970s and early 1980s.  We are now keen to further promote the Society and encourage more Fitz alumni – men and women – to start playing with us, even if it’s only on an occasional basis – perhaps just at the Fitz Open, for example.

You will find it a very friendly Society – most of our golf is “social” and not taken too seriously – and for many of us, meeting up with old and new friends is the most important part of the golf days.

There is much fuller information about the Society on the excellent Fitzwilliam Golf Society website: www.fitzwilliamgolfsoc.com and you can get in touch with us via the contact section on the website for further information.  The Fitz Development Office will also be able to help put you in touch with the Society if needed.

We look forward to hearing from you.
