What is it?

We will be running a series of online Medicine Taster sessions in April. All sessions will run from 5-6pm, and the schedule is as follows:

Monday 22 April – Q&A with Dr Robert Abayasekara (Director of Pre-Clinical Studies for Medicine at Fitzwilliam College) based on a pre-recorded lecture

Wednesday 24 April – Supervision-style sessions with current Medicine students

Friday 26 April – Talk about applications and careers for Medicine

Who is it for?

This event is for students in Year 12 or equivalent who are currently attending a state school and are considering applying for Medicine at university. If the event is over-subscribed, priority will be given to those who meet the widening participation criteria set out below.

Event details

All applicants will be informed whether they have a place in the week beginning 15 April. Successful applicants will receive joining links for the sessions on the day the session is due to take place.

Widening participation criteria

In the event of over-subscription, places will be prioritised for students who meet any of the following criteria:

• Are care experienced
• Have been eligible for Free School Meals (at any point in the last six years)
• Are, or have been, an asylum seeker or refugee
• Have significant caring responsibilities
• Are estranged from close family members
• Live in an area of low progression to higher education (POLAR4)
• Live in an area of high deprivation (IMD)
• Attend a low-performing sixth form
• Attend/attended a low-performing GCSE school
• Are from an under-represented ethnic group, these include:
  • Black African and Black Caribbean
  • Pakistani and Bangladeshi
  • Gypsy, Roma and Traveller
• Are from any background or region of the UK which is under-represented at the University of Cambridge
• Have had any other personal circumstances that have disrupted your education
