Dear Future FitzEd Participants, 

I am Dr Peter Bolgar, the Programme Director of the FitzEd Summer School.

I too have come to Cambridge from overseas for my undergraduate studies. I experienced first-hand the feeling of leaving my home to do a degree at one of the best universities in the world, while also needing to cope with the challenges of living abroad independently. It wasn’t always easy at all! As the time went by I realised that eventually you get into a new rhythm that allows you to excel in your education, as well as live a well-balanced life outside of your studies. 

After finishing my undergraduate and PhD studies at Cambridge, I have become a Bye-Fellow of Fitzwilliam College where I teach students for the Natural Sciences Tripos. After several years of teaching and experiencing Cambridge education from ‘the other side’, I was determined to develop a summer school programme for international students shaped by my personal experience of both studying and teaching at Cambridge. I aimed to create an opportunity for all those students who are thinking of coming to the UK for their further education to get a fully authentic experience of what the next few years in their lives might look like. Participating in the FitzEd Summer School is the closest you can ever get to understanding what might be waiting for you. Getting a glimpse of your future life helps you tremendously to prepare for it as best as you can, ensuring that once the new chapter starts you make the most of it. On top of this, after participating in the FitzEd Summer School, you’ll be able to demonstrate in your personal statement that you’ve been exposed to studying at a university overseas, and write about how much it helped not only your academic development but also your preparedness for life and study abroad.

I sincerely hope that you’ll attend one of our FitzEd Summer Schools, and thereby we can do our best at helping you develop for the challenges ahead.
