Performance Spaces
Fitz is a large College with plenty of options to perform - from the intimacy of the Grove and the College bar, through the splendid Chapel overlooking the gardens, to a state-of-the-art 240-person Auditorium, we have everything covered.
The Auditorium
The 250-seat Auditorium was built in 2004 and is a state-of-the-art performance space and gallery. It is regularly used to put on plays, shows, concerts and lectures. This outstanding resource - one of the best acoustic spaces in Cambridge - is available to all Fitzwilliam members and to private bookings. Facilities include a number of practice rooms, backstage areas, a high-resolution projector, lighting rigs, and a Steinway grand piano. The Auditorium Foyer - which opens out onto our beautiful gardens - offers a modern, airy exhibition space for receptions and more intimate events.
The Chapel
The Chapel is a beautiful space, designed for excellent acoustics and regularly used for concerts, performance and practice throughout the year. Whether you would like to practice on the organ, hold an a cappella rehearsal or come and listen to the choir, the Chapel is available to all members of College, of all faiths and none.
The Gordon Cameron Lecture Theatre
The small but perfectly formed Gordon Cameron theatre is located in Wilson Court. Seating up to 45 and equipped with a projector and speaker system the space is used primarily for presentations, talks and showing films. It can also be booked for teaching via the Porters' Lodge.
The Bar & the Upper Halls
Not all performances require the formality of a theatre setting. Regularly throughout the year the Bar is transformed into a performance space, used for jazz, open-mic and spoken word events. The Upper Halls, located upstairs in the Central Building, can be booked for practice sessions, auditions and rehearsal space. To book the Bar for an event, please talk both to the Bar Manager, Chris, and the College Events officer, Freya.
Music Practice rooms and smaller spaces
Not every performance needs an audience... The Music room, in the Central Building, offers a decent-sized rehearsal space for groups, and can be booked in advance. Likewise, individual practice rooms in the Auditorium are available, and a practice piano is located in the Foyer of the Auditorium for an impromptu session.
