Dr Andrew Martin
Dr Andrew Martin is a long-term ecologist, whose work currently focuses on Arctic ecosystems. Long-term ecology encompasses the dynamics of ecosystems from decades to centuries, often through the use of environmental proxies. Dr Martin has practical experience reconstructing ecological processes from tree- and shrub-ring records (dendroecology). His research focus lies in applying computational approaches to investigating decadal to centennial dynamics through the lens of computational ecology.
Starting from an undergraduate background in physical geography at St Andrews, Dr Martin subsequently obtained an MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management from the University of Oxford. Following a year working in the civil service, Dr Martin completed his DPhil in long-term ecology at the University of Oxford (2020) within the Oxford Long-Term Ecology Lab. He has more recently been working as part of the CHARTER Horizon 2020 consortium on a pan-Arctic synthesis project that is investigating biodiversity change in the recent past.
