In-person summer school (July-August)
Taking place from the 28th July – 10th August 2024 within Fitzwilliam College, participants will experience the world-leading teaching offered at our institution, by the same academics responsible for our own undergraduate students.
Reflecting the traditional Cambridge supervisions at the core of our undergraduate courses, our programme will help you develop your academic skills through challenging small group problem-solving and discussion sessions. The programme is designed to provide you with a flavour of undergraduate study at Cambridge, and an opportunity to explore your chosen topics beyond that covered in school curricula. For the duration of the programme, you will fully immerse yourself in the academic life of Cambridge and experience what it’s like to be an undergraduate student at our institution.
Course Options
You can choose to take one of the following courses as part of our Summer School Programme:
• Computer Science
• Physical Chemistry (Chemistry)
• Special Relativity and Quantum Mechanics (Physics)
• Nuclear Science and Technology (Physics, Engineering, Materials)
• Medicine (Biology)
• Paleobiology: Evolution and Behaviour (Biology)
• Sustainable Vehicles (Engineering)
• Microbiology & Microbial Genetics (Biology)
• Mathematics for the Natural Sciences (Mathematics)
• Elements of Mathematical Economics (Mathematics and Economics)
• Philosophy in Cambridge: Past and Present (Philosophy)
Each course will require you to write an individual academic essay, combining your knowledge from lectures and private study into an independent piece of research. You will present your research to your fellow classmates and the course instructor, and receive constructive, valuable feedback to help further your academic excellence. You will be offered after-class academic enrichment activities focused on developing the soft skills essential for your academic progression. Guided by experts, you will cultivate your writing, presentation and communication skills. Academics will share their top tips with you to help you thrive at University.
College Life and Excursions
You will be accommodated in single en-suite rooms in Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. Daily full board catering will be provided (breakfast, lunch and dinner included). After both the opening and closing ceremonies you will be invited to attend an authentic Cambridge formal hall, a dining experience that is at the heart of social life at Cambridge!
In addition to the courses and academic enrichment activities, you will have the opportunity to explore Cambridge, visit famous landmarks in the city and go punting on the River Cam. Over the weekend you will be taken on excursions to explore Oxford and London. As the Summer School is open for students from all around the world, you will meet like-minded people from other countries and other cultural backgrounds, improving your ability to study and live in a multicultural environment such as Cambridge.

Online Winter School 2024
In the winter of 2024, we are offering short courses in Mathematics, Mathematical Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and Neuroscience, Computer Science, Engineering and Archeology and History. For a detailed description of the short courses, see our Fitzwilliam Winter School Brochure.
The Short Courses that we offer are exclusively taught by academics from across the University and its constituent Colleges, including Fitzwilliam College. The programme aims to give secondary school students the opportunity to experience the type of advanced teaching offered at our institution. The same academics who teach our Undergraduate students will help the participating students to develop their academic skills. The challenging problem-solving and discussion sessions will reflect the style of Undergraduate supervisions, which are the core of the excellent teaching offered at our University.
This winter, the short courses are open exclusively for applications from international Chinese students, who can sign up for our courses through SEED ASDAN. For further information, please visit their website.

Online Summer School 2024
The Fitzwilliam College Summer School Programme is a unique online Summer School organised by Fitzwilliam College. This is the second year we will be offering this programme, following our first successful online Summer School in 2023.
The Short Courses that we are offering are exclusively taught by academics from across our University and its constituent Colleges. The programme aims to let secondary school students experience the type of advanced teaching offered at our institution. The same academics who teach our undergraduate students will help the participating students to develop their academic skills. The challenging problem-solving and discussion sessions will reflect the style of undergraduate supervisions, which are the core of the excellent teaching offered at our University.
In the summer of 2024 we are offering 2-week long courses in Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Psychology and Neuroscience, Computer Science, Mathematical Economics, Chemistry, Nuclear Science and Technology, History and Archaeology.
